Let’s face it… if you’re an internet marketer or even a regular web surfer, then you know how hard it can be to find a good list to rent. There are so many lists out there and it’s such a hassle to try to select one that’s right for you. You have to figure out first what type of people you want your list to target, what niche of market do you want to work in, etc. This is the hardest part of building a mailing list. I’ll go over a few tricks that will help make selecting a list easier.

When it comes down to it, most marketers aren’t looking to rent email lists. Why? Well, they simply don’t know how to go about finding the best lists to rent.

Most marketers like to stick to targeting one niche market. For example, let’s say that you want to target pet owners in the Austin area. It would be smart for you to do a search in the major search engines to see if there are any Austin pet owner databases on the internet. You should definitely include “pet owner” in the search term. Once you have found one or two websites, you should look closely at the contact information that they provide you with. It is extremely important that they provide you with their physical address (rather than a P.O. Box).

Now that you have the website addresses, you have to start collecting some information about the site owners. All of these sites will usually have a contact page, where you can send them an email asking about their list. The important thing to check is whether or not the person offering you the mailing list is reputable. If the contact page is an old one with no recent listings, then this could be a serious problem.

There are many ways of assessing whether or not you are dealing with a reputable company. One of them is checking out the actual email list that they are sending you. Is it a professional looking list? Is it well organized? Are the categories chosen based on a criteria that you have chosen?

Some of the most common categories for people who rent their mailing lists include: pets, real estate, baby goods, self improvement, money matters and the likes. Now let’s assume that you are interested in one of those categories. You should certainly check out the list for “pets” to verify that the email addresses you are gathering are valid pet addresses. If there are any that are expired, then they may be veryfy to send you spam email over a very short period of time. If you are trying to gather several email addresses that have recently expired, then this method will probably not work very well for you.

As mentioned earlier, this is just an example. It is very likely that there are many other categories in which your company can choose to rent their lists. Some of the most popular marketing categories include: health/fitness, auto/Rental, home improvement, personal ads, etc. The last option, personal ads, is great for a marketing campaign as it tends to attract many people.

Of course, you can find many other ways of organizing your marketing lists as well. However, it is very difficult to organize the emails when you are trying to send out bulk email campaigns. So if you’re interested in bulk email campaigns, then you definitely want to consider building a list with several different categories. Once you have the lists for each category, you will be able to send out only the emails relevant to the category that you have built up. In this way, you will not make the mistake of sending out unwanted mail to people in categories that have received no responses from your ad.
