Whatever you do inside your destination of, kayaking, trekking, volunteering, paragliding or perhaps lurking and sightseeing; There are some items that we can all caused by avoid causing offence or harming the environment. Remember, your movements count. Allow me to share up a little gem to allow you to a much more ethical traveler!!

    • Understand and respect local cultures, traditions and holy places. Choosing mortified to believe you had offended anyone when you arrive so it will be worthwhile to learn some of the local cultures. As an example in Nepal, it’s rude to shake hands, exchange money or eat with your left hand (because your dirty hand), it is usually frowned upon to feel children in addition to their heads and you should always take off your shoes before entering a monastery.

    • Buy locally – If you wish to purchase your own food or get some good snacks, escape the large western supermarket and purchase right out the market. It is the same produce and will also be helping smaller businesses survive. You are going to almost certainly get a better price so you receive the fun of wandering around the markets and meeting locals.

    • Ditch the plastic- Many countries do not have recycling facilities and if your drinking 3 litres a day for 2 weeks this is a whopping 84 bottles that can result in a landfill somewhere. Bring (or buy) a refillable water bottle and then use it as much as possible. In Nepal, many shops will have clean drinking water that exist coming from a jar just for 10 rupees a litre (half the cost of buying a plastic bottle)

    • Ask before a photo- It’s common curtsey. You wouldn’t like someone choosing a photo person going about every day to day business, so ask. They will often say yes they may say no. When they do decline, give you thanks and disappear. A lot of people don’t mind. But it is always nice to inquire about first.

    • Carefully think about the souvenirs you buy- Ensure the belongings you buy have a very legal and documented past and that they can aren’t stolen and they are safe being exported. Its also wise to be certain that you’re not supporting activities that damage the surroundings or are due to illegal activity. Remember to be not getting a souvenir made from ivory, endangered hard woods, ancient artefacts or endangered animals.

    • Respect the environment- Our absolute goal is usually to ‘leave no trace’. As soon as your trekking, keep to the paths, don’t pick any flowers or damage any trees. If your camping out, think twice in places you will place your campfire and only use drift wood in order not to encourage de-forestation.

    • Select a Responsible Travel Company – When organising your vacation, make sure you book your tour, package or activity which has a responsible local travel agent.

    • Study a little language and have involved! – Start with ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’. In Nepali ‘Namaste’ and ‘Dhanybhad’. It makes an enormous amount of difference and individuals really be thankful.
